Improvement Mod 6 is out for the Patcher

This is still NOT the full, official version 6 release, this is another PROTOTYPE!

The mod's patcher has now been updated to support the new installation system of version 6 and because of that, for easier testing of the prototype, I will release Imp Mod 6 through the patcher as well. For further testing. TESTING!

Because yes, we have a lot more to test now. As you might know, there's been a huge breakthrough in the AoE3 modding community in the past week, a breakthrough which allows modders to finally and completely add new civilizations into the game!
Yup, we can now add an infinite(ish) number of new civs completed with AIs and ESO support.

And because of this, I went back and revived my American civ from the dead. Went through it, updated everything, fixed most bugs and I am now releasing it in the prototype as well.
You can now create a new American homecity just like you create for all other civs, same for ESO.

So do a clean reinstall of the game, get the patcher, download everything and start playing! I mean testing. Please report all the bugs that you find.

Also, I need to stress this again, people who have the old version of the mod, if you plan to run the patcher again from this point onward, please reinstall your games first or else it will break everything.

When you reinstall the game and install the mod, make sure you run the original game (Asian Dynasties) at least once so you enter your cd key and all that. Only AFTER that you can run the mod.

Installation (on a fresh game)
- copy the 'AoE3ImpModPatcher' to your AoE3 directory, by default:
/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age Of Empires III/
- for the Steam version, use this path (always inside the bin folder!):
/Steam/steamapps/common/Age of Empires 3/bin/
- run the patcher as administrator and make sure it's not blocked by firewalls

Also make sure you run the original game first (to enter the cdkey and all that) and THEN run the mod's exe (this applies for both Steam and non Steam versions)!

    2. I already answered this question a few tens of times but fine.

      For walls were removed because of balance issues and because of players who kept asking me why their walls became turned backwards when upgrading to fort walls, when all they had to do is follow a simple pattern when building walls so they don't turn backwards.

      But I thought it was a waste to completely remove them so they are now available in the Swedish consulate for the Chinese.

    3. It would not be good to create a letter for all the metropolis to create the walls strengths ??? I would if you authorize me !!! I did it with the letters of the SIOUX which each letter delivery improvement, and technology unit + 1 bison.

    1. I'm working on it. There are some problems with options not saving properly and until I fix those the main folder in My Documents is undecided.

      When this is all sorted out custom maps will also come back.

    4. I now know what causes it and it's impossible for me to have it pre-fixed, because the "fix" is stored inside everyone's computer.

      So, if you look in the right side of the blog, you'll see this:
      "Before playing the mod to go your game's installation folder and set "age3m.exe" to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3!"

      That's how you make settings save properly.

    Second, the new actualizancion can be installed along with Mod N.E. 2.1.7b ?. because it also has an executable other than the base game.

    1. Theoretically, yes. But right now the mod is going through a lot of changes and until version 6 is officially and fully out, don't expect everything to work perfectly.

  5. First of all, thank you very much for the mod! I've been following it since the beginning, and it's amazing how much it has been through. I like the new American civ "remake" too.

    Now, here's 2 things I noticed so far, in regards to the Americans:
    In the Customize Home City option, in the Cathedral, if you buy Dusk Lighting you can't deactivate it, and in the Market Place, the second to last option doesn´t have a text description.

    Also, after installing this last version I noticed I didn't have the previous 5.4 custom maps (that came with the last version of the Americans, in a zip file) available, so I copy pasted the previous custom maps from the RM3 folder to the new RMM folder. I don't know If this was an installation problem on my part or something, but If not, it would be cool to correct this.

      Has the AI not being able to transport units by sea, in maps like Amazon, been fixed? That would be awesome.

      Are you planning to add home city customization to the Asian civs?

      What do you think of the following? Adding 5 more cards to the limit. +1 at lvl 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100, for a total of 30.

    3. I discovered something else: when playing as the Americans, I can't make Patriot Militia out of the barracks. I purchase them and the green circle timer goes off, but when it ends and they are supposed to come out of the barracks nothing comes out.

    4. Nice bugs, I'll try to fix them. Already fixed the Militia one, it was a stupid bug.

      Custom maps, as I told someone in a previous comment, will come back once I sort out what folder the mod will use in My Documents, which will probably be today or tomorrow.

      The AI... is actually capable of a lot of things, including transporting units in ships on Amazon, I've seen them do it.
      The thing with the AI is IF they want to do those things. And in most cases they bug out and they don't...
      The AI is a lost cause in this game. It will never be perfect or even close.

      Increasing card limit, well, it was impossible until now, BUT, with the recent modding breakthroughs done by Daniel and Cliff, it might be possible. Dunno if I'll do it and what limit I'll use though.

    5. I think 30 is a good number. I'm always missing 2 or 3 cards in my deck :D
      Also I found that the portuguese allies for the Japanese spawn horse artillery intead of culverins in the 5th age army.
      Another thing are the mortars...
      Since they can fire at units now I find them extremely overpowered... They deal damage like heavy artillery over huge distances, it's just too much.
      Also the european civs can now send cards with fame what is a huge advantage over asian and native civs - I find they should have a system like this, too.
      And last but not least, I was wondering why the dutch got a musketeer like infantry while the germans didn't get them.
      Keep it up, this mod has become really great and gave AOE III some interesting flavor :)

    7. Also other europeans have the boneguard musketeer while the germans get the winged knight, I'd never prefer the winged knights over boneguards since uhlans are solid cavalry for free :D. Just my two cents there.

    8. In the latest mod version each European civ gets a unique mercenary from the Command Center card, and Germans get Winked Knights.

Great work mate... but i have some very odd issues with the patcher... i did a clean reinstallation of the game and ran it for the first time... then copy-pasted the patcher into the game main folder, unblocked it in the firewall rules (windows firewall), ran it as administrator but it goes on forever... the phrase "checking for updates" appears and it goes on and on... it does nothing... any suggestion?

    1. You can, copy everything from "My Documents/My Games/Age of Empires 3" to "My Documents/My Games/AoE3 Improvement Mod".

    2. Did that, does not work. installed clean copy of games, patched to latest and then copied mod zip downloaded from Github (since patcher did not work) into install directory. Copied content from My Documents/My Games/Age of Empires 3 to My Documents/My Games/AoE3 Improvement Mod. Move and replace.

      But when I play the normal AoEY.exe my saved games is still there. And then playing with the mod, no saved data at all, Am i missing something?

      Also there are no custom maps...

    3. Ah, that's because the HC folder has a different name for the mod.
      Go back to the "AoE3 Improvement Mod" folder and rename "Savegame" to "Savegamm" (delete the existing one if necessary or combine them).

    1. Uhm, so, first you need Hamachi, Game Ranger or Tunngle.
      Then you need to make sure the game uses your IP (or the IP provided by Game Ranger or Hamachi) and if it doesn't you put it in the user.cfg file and that's it.
      You don't really need the mod loader or anything else. Also make sure your firewall isn't blocking the game.

  10. Mandos, what do you think of moving, for the Portuguese, the cards Team Gunpowder Infantry Hitpoints and Gunpowder Infantry Attack to the 3rd age, instead of having them at the 4th age? There's A LOT more good 4th age cards in comparison with 3rd age ones, and it sucks that you can't have more than 10 in a age at a time.

    Also, 2 more things.

    1st. The english don't have Economic Theory; is it meant to be like this?

    2nd. I think the English should have a 4th age infinite Longbows card, just like the Portuguese have a 4th age Musketeer one. What do you think?

      Yes, I agree, at least one of those Portuguese cards should be age3 and I made it so.
      While in the meantime, the Dutch get those cards which increase stats for ALL infantry in age2, which is not ok, so I changed that a bit too.

      Economic Theory, I checked the original game and it's the same, they don't have it. Should British have it?

      British have an infinite grenadier card so uhm... Yeah.

      Good thinking on the dutch, I hadn't noticed that.

      I don't really think the British should have it, purely because they're already great economically; I was just making sure it was right in my game.

      Nice seeing the Italians. The Americans were fantastic, I know the Italians will be too :)

      Two last things for now:

      1st. Maybe you're already noticed it, but in the Russian homecity, the animation for the dog is in slow motion. Can you speed it up by 2x? It looks like the dog's on the moon.

      2nd. I think the homecities should come with more customizations available instead of just 2. (For this I edit the "My Documents" file, so it doesn't bother me, but I just thought I'd point it out, for the others)

    4. 1. Yes, I've been trying to fix it for 6 years now! But I don't know where his speed is defined. It annoys me as well.

      2. Yeah, well, HC customization is a hot topic for me. I kinda wanted to remove customization for Euro HCs entirely because Asians and Natives don't have such a thing in their HCs, plus, if I want to add new civs I won't always be able to make HCs customizable, and so the consistency will drive me mad.

      I got lucky with Italians and Americans because I could use the HCs of Malta and St. Louis from the campaigns, but I'm out of such tricks now.
      The Swedish will not have a proper HC unless I use an existing one and that will suck but no other way.

  11. I get an error when attempting to run the AoE3ImpModPatcher file on the PC. Firewall is completely disabled as well as antivirus. When I run as an Administrator it seems to connect, patching mod, asks if I want to go to the homepage. I select "no" then receive a Microsoft .NET Framework unhandled exception error.

    1. I get this problem too. What I do to go around it is, instead of starting by the patcher, I start the game using the age3m.exe in the installation folder.

    2. Yes guys, I know, I told you the mod will have problems until version 6 is fully released, that's why it's a prototype.
      You can call it a beta if you want but I kinda hate that word.

      Right now though the patcher should work, I fixed it. Though expect such error in the close future to happen again. They will be fixed though so don't worry.

  15. I have a random sound bug sometimes. I don't know what's causing it but troops sometimes don't call out anything or weapons make no sound and it gets worse as the game progresses.

      If its just for version 6 make sure the mod's exe is set to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

    3. I can't report any occurance of this bug for now :) but I have found another: If you use the advanced church for the russians the westerinsation tech and the tech which follows this aren't working...
      You can research them but your troops don't upgrade.

    6. I have just downloaded the latest version from Github to test for bugs since I played a round with the Russians and the followtech of Westerinsation was missing I thought you might have fixed a few bugs that's why I'm reporting them once again...

    7. Yeah, so, Westernisation works fine and the other tech was removed because it wasn't necessary anymore (the tech has a different effect than before).
      I understood that Westernisation doesn't work either but it does.

      As for monks, I fixed their animation but I just haven't released it yet.
      I wanna do some more things with Italians and mercenaries first.
      I really need to finish Italians because I keep delaying and I'm lazy and... it's not good.

  18. Yep, I deleted the comment because I figured it out. The solution wasn't running the patcher though. I had already tried that. What worked was downloading everything again including the age3m.exe and running it. Pretty obvious too, all I had to do to figure it out was carefully reread this last blog post.

  20. Hi reporting, i'm reporting some issues. The patcher still does not work for me but who cares, i download the whole thing on github :)

    Here are the issues:
    - villagers (all civs) have no longer voices, none of them (only courieur des bois works fine)
    - in-game music i hear is the standard music, not the modded one
    - Italians (is it normal that they have almost the same cards as spanish? or is it a problem of mine?) does not have voice at all. All units does not have voice (Explorer, villagers, military) except of the Cranequinieur (Ranged cavalry) which have french voices.

    I'm Italian, here's my installation folder
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Studios\Age of Empires III - Complete Collection\bin

    maybe i should change the standard path in some file? Let me know, your work is awesome and this no-voice issue is driving me crazy

      - they do for me. I fear you might have the Warchiefs registry bug. Tell me, if you go to Create a new Home City, can you see Aztecs, for example?

      - same question as above. But a little more than that which will come bellow.

      - really nigga...? I said several, multiple, many times that Italians are A WORK IN PROGRESS!

      You think a new civ is just done in a few hours? It takes days of work to fully flesh them out! With each update Italians will be closer to completion. But not all at once.

      What you should do is add me on Skype and have me take a look at your game with Team Viewer, this way I will fix all your problems and make the patcher working.

    1. What? Not again...
      Listen, a few weeks ago there's been this global update to all antiviruses or something, and my patcher seems to pop up as malware sometimes...

      I say sometimes because it doesn't happen... for all.
      Like, I have around 15 patchers scattered around my pc and some pop up as malware, some don't...

      I have no idea what's going on. But I can assure you it's not a freaking virus. My mod has been going for almost 7 years now and no one ever reported any illegality.

      I think it's from the way the patcher is codded (because remember, all of this is fan made, nothing professional or officially supported) and the fact that it downloads stuff from the web. And so it appears as a false positive.

      Just tell your antivirus it's not malware and all should be fine.

    2. First I have to say I trust in you and your mod 100%. Never played it before but sounds really awesome, hence I could imagine maybe someone jealous tried to shot down...

      Second; also I believe a possible false positive. I tested on Jotti Virusscan and VirusTotal, some antiviruses mark as trojan (4/19 and 15/55); taking in count the origin of the application, for me is adequatly safe.

      Anyway I will report here if appears something unusual concerning the PC's performance, also if nothing strange happen.

      Just put everything in the game's main folder and it's done.
      You don't need the patcher to play the mod. The mod has it's own exe which yes, does NOT show up as malware.

    I can't build settlers as Russian, it says 'An additional required to train another settler'

      Apparently it's from a code I experimented with and it had some unexpected side effects.

  25. Mandos, excellent work on mod revival, however couple of things regarding Americans and Italians and one proposal.

    Americans need saloon instead of command post as it making them unique, also have you considered doing reskin of America buildings so they have "Virginia style". American units also need to have model work. Rifleman on "Distinguished rifleman" can use this model as its final (imperial one)

    P.S. Ideal model for US rifleman should be gatling gunner,one with kepi, however its model needs to be extracted out.

    American cavalry should use different hats instead of napolenonic long ones.

    Americans should have this unique walls, being frontier nations in aoe III timeline.

    Regarding Italians, renaming their units and reskining them will do the work, and adding handcannon unit which fight close on and can damage multiple units when firing (like your former american explorer, colonel custer attack), with downside being low hitpoints and close fighting. Also reskining their buidlings will make it work.

    And know, I propose to add library building. It can research technologies, ofc unique to every nation. Many nations have weak unique technologies, Italian ones are just useless and American ones instead of international trade are also useless. So think about adding new oportunities.

  26. I forgot to mention, so sorry for double post, however when Americans advance into imperial age, as you made they can choose between Confederate or United States of America. Problem is that flags do not change. I propose new homecity for C.S.A. and authentic flag of C.S.A. while for Americans you can change flag to have more stars on banner, like those flag which flag bearer is having.

    1. You can only install other mods that also have their own exes, like my mod.
      But even then, you might encounter problems.
      Do it at your own risk.

    I got a question: How can you add customs map( from other entries, i got some from NEXUS mods, XS files,...) to play in IMP? I tried to add in RM2 in MyDocuments file and it just doesn't work.

  32. Also i got unlimited pop mod version and i want to install it in Data file but it will overwrite protox.xml file. Is it able to damage the game if I do that?

    1. Custom maps go in My Documents/AoE3 Improvement Mod/RMM.

      And no, unlimited pop won't work. Sorry.

    2. First of all, make sure you use the latest patcher, which is this one:

      Second, if the patcher gets stuck at the end, if you close it and run it again it should work. Just like that.
